"Kunozan Toshogu Shrine(久能山東照宮)" is located in the central area of Shizuoka.

Famous sightseeing spots such as "Nihondaira" and "Miho no Matsubara" are also nearby.

 

Kunozan Toshogu Shrine is famous as a shrine that enshrines "Tokugawa Ieyasu(徳川家康)", a hero of the Edo period.

The beautifully decorated shrine buildings were designated as a National Treasure in 2010.

 

Before Ieyasu death, Ieyasu had instructed his retainers to bury his remains at Kunozan.

Ieyasu’s successor, the second Shogun, Tokugawa Hidetada carried out Ieyasu’s instructions and ordered a shrine to be built to enshrine Tokugawa Ieyasu.

 

Kunozan Toshogu Shrine is built on Mt. Kuno at an altitude of 216m.
